there is something so attractive and appealing to me about garter stitch.  it is the simplest of stitches, and the stitch of children's first projects.   after designing for the knitting machine for so many years, i am drawn to hand knit things in garter stitch, which is not possible on my hand loom machines.  i call this the "caveman" baby bootie because it is so primitive and simple.
